Use this checklist to keep track of dates and deadlines as you apply to Washington University.
- Submit the Pre-Application Data Sheet/Supplement.
This brief Data Sheet can be submitted on paper or online. While you can submit this form at any time before the deadlines, we encourage you to submit it as soon as possible. Once we have received the Data Sheet, we will send you a paper copy of the Common Application and we will open your application file so that we are prepared to receive your other application materials. (Note: Our Supplement is not available through the Common Application Web site.)
- Submit the Common Application or Universal College Application.
The Common Application may be submitted on paper or online at www.commonapp.org. After you have submitted your Pre-Application Data Sheet, we will mail you a paper copy of the Common Application. You may also download the Common Application from this Web site. If you prefer, you may submit the Universal College Application, available at www.universalcollegeapp.com, in place of the Common Application. You should submit either the Common Application or the Universal College Application, but not both. Both the Common Application and the Universal College Application include the essay questions.
- Submit the $55 Application Fee.
The $55 nonrefundable application fee or fee waiver request from your high school guidance counselor is required and should be submitted only once. Make your check payable to Washington University and note the applicant’s name on the check. Do not send cash. If you prefer to pay the application fee using MasterCard, Visa, or Discover, you may do so when you submit the Pre-Application Data Sheet online or when you check the status of your application on our Web site. (Note: It is not possible to pay our application fee on the Common Application Web site.)
- Submit Your Support Materials.
In addition to the application forms and essay, you must submit the following supporting materials by the deadlines: School Report and Official Transcript, Teacher Evaluation, SAT or ACT Scores, TOEFL or IELTS (for students whose first language is not English), and portfolio (optional for students applying to the College of Art and College of Architecture).
- Midyear Report
The Midyear Report is an important component of our evaluation process. Your counselor should mail us this form and an updated transcript as soon as possible after January 1. If you are applying Early Decision, you must submit your first marking period grades in order to complete your application.
- Apply for Financial Assistance.
If you wish to be considered for financial assistance based on need, you must submit separate applications. See Financial Assistance for more information.
- Apply for Academic Scholarships.
If you wish to be considered for merit-based scholarships, you must submit separate applications. See Academic Scholarship and Fellowship Programs for deadlines, applications, and more information.
- Check Your Progress.
You can click here to check the status of your application on our Web site. You can login to see what pieces of your application are missing, verify your application data, pay your application fee, and even link to a site where you can check the status of your application for financial assistance. Our Web site is the only source of accurate information regarding the status of your application to Washington University;Â please check it regularly.
- Final Report
Applicants who are admitted and who choose to enroll at Washington University will be required to submit the Common Application Final Report, which includes the official final transcript. Enrolling first-year students will receive this form by mail. The form is also available at www.commonapp.org.
