Your Professors

Washington University professors use their knowledge and skills to fuel your enthusiasm, teach you to think for yourself, and spark the learning you’ll need succeed. These leaders in their fields are accessible to you because the same faculty teaches undergraduate and graduate students. They engage in research, write definitive books, create works of art, and win major awards like the Nobel Prize. They bring the excitement of their research into your classes.

You Connect With Professors in Many Ways

Academic advisors help guide you along the academic path you choose. You also work with professors in one-on-one independent study, conferences during office hours, review sessions, or on research projects. You get to know them outside the classroom, too, from field trips to sports to informal gatherings. Some faculty members and their families live with students in residential colleges, while Faculty Associates spend time with students in the residential colleges by participating in activities, including the Freshman Reading Program.

Classes Are Reasonably Sized

More than 80 percent of Washington University’s undergraduate classes have from 1 to 24 students. Such smaller classes help you learn through more stimulating group discussion. While your classes may be larger at first, they generally become smaller as you progress in your chosen field.
