A World of Exploration, Research, and Discovery

What do you love to learn about? What intrigues you? In the College of Arts & Sciences at Washington University, the possibilities are endless. You can explore literature, languages, history, mathematics, psychology, biology, music, drama, and a lot more. If you're curious about the world around you—about what came before you, what is happening today, where things are going, and how you can make a difference—a liberal arts education in the College of Arts & Sciences is for you.

What is a "Liberal Arts" Education?

In Arts & Sciences classes, you look at everything—people, institutions, traditions, everyday experiences—from new perspectives. You widen your view of the world. You think about ideas, values, and philosophies, challenging your own beliefs and learning about those held by others. You develop your ability to organize and interpret information, to think analytically, and to communicate your ideas clearly and persuasively. In investigating this world of ideas, you discover more about yourself, your talents, and your personal vision of the future.

Washington University’s Intellectual Hub

The largest undergraduate program at Washington University, the College of Arts & Sciences is the center of intellectual life on campus. Of the five undergraduate divisions, Arts & Sciences offers the most diverse range of courses, and almost all undergraduate students—no matter the school—take Arts & Sciences courses.

Arts & Sciences students can take classes across the entire undergraduate curriculum. If you’re interested in interdisciplinary study, we make it easy for you to take courses in architecture, art, business, and engineering.
