Entrepreneurship

Why Study Entrepreneurship?

Learn the skills needed to become a business innovator, whether you want to start a business or help an existing business move forward by developing new products or services. This concentration draws together course work in business with electives from biomedical engineering, life sciences, visual communications, and many other areas. As a capstone to this major, students develop business plans for new ventures. Winning plans may be eligible for start-up financing from Olin’s Hatchery Seed Capital Fund.

Skandalaris Program in Entrepreneurship Offering students from all disciplines the opportunity to learn about entrepreneurship from academic and real-world perspectives is the Skandalaris Program in Entrepreneurship. Its mission is to deliver a leading-edge, integrated program that supports the University and the St. Louis community. We target learning and research in four areas: corporate innovation, application and commercialization of early-stage science, student-initiated ventures, and social entrepreneurship.

The Skandalaris program assists in the formation of new ventures through the Hatchery, an academic course that enables students to test-start their own businesses or support those of outside entrepreneurs. In addition, the Olin Cup Competition supports new business formation by facilitating cross-country relationships, interdisciplinary learning, and community collaboration. Winning teams in the competition are awarded seed funding to start their new venture.

Olin’s Study Abroad Programs

  • International Internship Program
Olin’s International Internship Program offers students the opportunity to combine classroom learning with an internship experience in Koblenz, Germany; London, England; or Paris, France. Participants in any of these programs earn 15 units of academic credit and full-time internship placements of approximately 15 weeks in London, France, or Germany. Students also write a significant research paper and present an oral presentation at the end of the program. The International Internship Programs are open to all Olin juniors and seniors who have completed the equivalent of five semesters of course work.
  • Olin Exchange Programs
Olin students have the opportunity to pursue a strictly academic focus in their study abroad experience.
