The Washington University community puts into action its concern for others. Students, faculty, and staff give their time and energy to community service to an unusual degree. And our interest in improving education reaches beyond our own campuses to assist in several efforts to improve elementary and secondary education throughout the region.
The benefits of our partnership with the community pay off for Washington University too. In many ways, St. Louis serves as an extended classroom and laboratory. Many of our students go into the community to translate their theoretical learning into practical experience through internships, fieldwork, and Co-op employment.
Sampling of community involvement by Washington University students, faculty, and staff:
- After-school tutoring to help area students with their homework
