The Application Process for Prospective International Students  

The Regular Decision application deadline for the Class of 2016 (our fall 2012 freshman class) was January 15, 2012. Please contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at (800) 638-0700 or (314) 935-6000 if you would like to speak with an admissions officer.

Washington University defines an international student as a student who is not a citizen or Permanent Resident of the United States.

The Application Process-At-A-Glance for Prospective International Students

  1. Eads HallSubmit the Pre-Application Data Sheet/Common Application Supplement.
    This brief Supplement can be submitted on paper or online. While you can submit this form at any time before the deadline, we encourage you to submit it as soon as possible. Once we have received the Supplement, we will send you a paper copy of the Common Application, and we will open your application file so that we are prepared to receive your other application materials.
  2. Submit the Common Application or Universal College Application.
    The Common Application may be submitted on paper or online at www.commonapp.org. After you have submitted your Supplement, we will mail you a paper copy of the Common Application. If you prefer, you may submit the Universal College Application in place of the Common Application. You should submit either the Common Application or the Universal College Application, but not both. The Universal College Application is available online at www.universalcollegeapp.com. Both the Common Application and the Universal College Application include the essay questions.
  3. Submit the $55 Application Fee.
    You may submit a $55 personal check in the amount of $55 (U.S. dollars), made payable to Washington University. Be sure to include the applicant’s name on the check. If you prefer to pay the application fee using a credit card, you may do so when you submit the Supplement online or when you log in to the WUSTL Pathway on our website. (Note: It is not possible to pay our application fee on the Common Application website.) You should submit the $55 nonrefundable application fee only once. Do not send cash.
  4. Login to the WUSTL Pathway to Check Your Progress.
    You can click here to check the status of your application on our website. We will send you instructions for logging in to the WUSTL Pathway at the email address you provided when we have processed your application. When you log in to the WUSTL Pathway, you will be able to see what pieces of your application we have on file, verify your application data, pay your application fee using a credit card, submit electronic applications for our University Scholars Program and Academic Scholarship & Fellowship Programs, and link to a site where you can check the status of your application for financial assistance. The WUSTL Pathway is the only source of accurate information regarding the status of your application to Washington University; we expect applicants to check it regularly. Note: The Common Application website does not have up-to-date information about the status of your application to Washington University.
  5. Submit your Support Materials (freshman applicants).
    In addition to the application forms and essay, freshman applicants must submit the following supporting materials by the deadlines: School Report and Official Transcript, Teacher Evaluation, SAT or ACT Scores, TOEFL or IELTS (for students whose first language is not English), and portfolio (required for students applying to the College of Art, optional for students applying to the College of Architecture).
    Submit your Support Materials (transfer applicants).
    In addition to the application forms and essay, applicants for transfer admission must submit the following supporting materials by the deadlines: Instructor Evaluation and College Report, SAT or ACT scores, TOEFL or IELTS (for students whose first language is not English), high school transcript, college transcript, and portfolio (required for students applying to the College of Art and College of Architecture).
  6. Submit the Midyear Report (freshman applicants).
    The Midyear Report is an important component of our evaluation process. Your counselor should mail us this form and an updated transcript as soon as possible after January 1. If you are applying Early Decision, you must submit your first marking period grades in order to complete your application.
    Submit the Mid-Semester Progress Report (transfer applicants).
    If you are in your first year of college, you must present at least one completed semester of full-time college work with your application for transfer admission or submit a completed Mid-Semester Progress Report. All applicants for spring admission are required to submit this form for admission consideration.
  7. Apply for Financial Assistance. If you wish to be considered for financial assistance based on need, you must submit separate applications. Please click here for more information.
  8. Apply for Academic Scholarships (freshman applicants). If you wish to be considered for merit-based scholarships, you must submit separate applications. Please go to Academic Scholarship & Fellowship Programs for deadlines, applications, and more information.
