What types of housing are available? Do co-ed dorms exist? Can freshmen have single rooms?
Several housing options are available for students. There are “all-freshmen” as well as “mixed-class” residence halls. All residence houses are coed, with same-sex rooms. Most freshmen live in double rooms, but there are also a few singles and triples available.

Do many of your students live on campus?
Yes, the vast majority of our undergraduate students live on campus. Students who elect to move off campus can choose to live in University-owned apartments within walking distance of campus.

Are freshmen required to live on campus?
If your parents or legal guardians live more than 25 miles from Washington University, you are required to live on campus as a freshman. If your parents or legal guardians live within 25 miles, you are encouraged, but not required, to live on campus your freshman year. Most freshmen from the area also choose to live on campus.

Yes, washers and dryers are available in our residence houses.

What kinds of computer facilities are available to students?
The Residential Technology Center at Washington University operates 24-hour computer clusters in the residence houses with Macintosh and IBM-compatible computers and laser printers networked into the University system. Students also have access to e-mail and both wired and wireless (Wi-Fi) Internet from numerous places around campus, including their rooms in our residence houses. If students choose to bring their own computers to campus, they may connect their personal computers to the campus-wide network and the Internet from their residence house rooms via the campus (Ethernet) network.

What do students do outside of their classes? What kinds of extracurricular activities are available?

Do the fraternities and sororities have houses?
Several fraternities have houses on campus. Sororities prefer not to have houses, but they have meeting rooms in the Ann W. Olin Women’s Building on campus.

Are intramural and club sports available?
About 75 percent of WU students participate in intramural sports. You’ll find leagues for all-male, all-female, and coed teams. Club sports are student-run groups which compete with teams from other colleges and universities. In 2008-2009, 31 clubs—ranging from crew to water polo—were active.

Is Washington University’s campus safe?
Washington University has a safe and beautiful campus surrounded by great residential neighborhoods. Most of our students and faculty, including the Chancellor and all the academic deans, live within walking distance. You’ll discover that St. Louis is a wonderful place to go to school.
