expand What are the admission requirements for transfer students?
  1. Transfer admission to Washington University is selective and competitive. With limited transfer spots available, we recommend the strongest candidates for transfer admission to Washington University have earned at least a B+ average from a two-year or four-year college in courses across a broad academic curriculum.
  2. Students must leave their current institution and all previous institutions in good standing and be eligible to return.
  3. Transfer applicants to the College of Architecture or the College of Art must submit a portfolio for review by the faculty.
  4. Transfer applicants to the Olin Business School must have completed Calculus II at the college level.
  5. Transfer applicants to the School of Engineering & Applied Science should have completed two semesters of calculus-based physics and sufficient calculus to be prepared to take differential equations; they also should have satisfied the English Composition requirement. Applicants interested in biomedical or chemical engineering should have completed sufficient chemistry to be prepared to take organic chemistry.
expand When will I learn of my admission decision?
We will notify applicants of admission decisions on a rolling basis, approximately 6 weeks after all components of the application have been received (after February 1). Following notification of admission, the dean of the school to which you have been admitted (Architecture, Art, etc.) will send you a statement indicating the credit we have awarded you from your previous college enrollments. If you decide to enroll, you must confirm your decision by submitting a $200 nonrefundable enrollment deposit by the date indicated in the offer of admission notification. If you are applying for financial assistance, your deposit deadline will be established after a financial assistance decision has been made.
expand Can transfer students apply for financial assistance?
Yes, Washington University offers financial assistance to transfer students. Please click here for more information about Applying for Financial Assistance for Transfer Students.
expand Will all my courses transfer?
Washington University awards credit for college course work that resembles, by published catalog description, a comparable course offering from one of its five undergraduate schools. To assure proper transfer credit, you must submit a copy of the catalog description for any course whose nature is not immediately clear by its title or course number. Washington University credit is awarded if grades of C or better appear on your college transcript. Final decisions concerning transferring course credits are made by your academic dean at Washington University.
expand Does the credit I received by examination at my previous college or university transfer?
No Washington University credit is granted for CLEP exams, correspondence/online courses, or departmental placement exams given by another institution.
expand Will I automatically receive AP credit if it was accepted at my previous institution?
Depending on the subject, a score of 4 or 5 on the AP exams or a score of 5 or better on the higher-level IB exams may result in advanced placement in an appropriate subject at Washington University, and may result in credit being awarded. Credit will not be given for scores of 3 or lower on the AP exams, 4 or lower on the higher-level IB exams, or any score on the standard-level IB exams. A maximum of 15 units of prematriculation credit may be counted towards any undergraduate degree. These units will count towards graduation, but will not meet general education requirements.
