Highlights of the University Scholars Program in Medicine

Incoming medical students don their symbolic white coats and take an oath of professionalism during the annual White Coat Ceremony, which caps a week of orientation activities.
  • You apply for admission to both your chosen undergraduate degree program and to medical school before entering college. (We realize your plans may change, in which case you will not be required to attend medical school.)
  • Finalists are invited to campus in the spring of their senior year of high school for interviews with representatives from our undergraduate divisions and from the School of Medicine.
  • If your are selected as a University Scholar in Medicine, you will gain admission to undergraduate and graduate study at the same time, as long as you successfully complete your undergraduate studies.
  • A mentor from the School of Medicine will help guide you even as an undergraduate.
  • You will be invited to special lectures and other events held by the School of Medicine.
  • If you are interested, you will be able to engage in research as an undergraduate.
  • You will receive personal pre-professional advising.
  • You may have an opportunity to “shadow” a medical student or physician.
  • If you change your mind and decide not to attend medical school, you will still have lots of great choices for an outstanding education.
