Community service is a natural part of life at Washington University, with approximately 75 percent of our students engaging in a wide range of service projects.
Community service takes many forms including volunteerism, advocacy, education, and philanthropy. WashU students who engage in community service report that this experience helps them to make better decisions, adapt to change, improve their self-esteem, and better prepare for their career, among other benefits.
The Community Service Office at Washington University aims to provide meaningful opportunities for students to volunteer their time and energy in response to voiced community needs. They help students develop a sustained commitment to service that lasts beyond their years at WashU. A wealth of student-run community service groups, departmental programs, and nonprofits are available for participation.
