Financial Aid + Scholarships

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the deadline?

All materials must be received in our office by 5:00 p.m. Central time on January 2, 2019. Please see the scholarship program's page for application instructions.

I’m applying Early Decision. Am I eligible for scholarships?

Yes. Students who apply under our binding Early Decision I & II plan may still be considered for any merit scholarship matching their academic and extracurricular achievements. Scholarships are not awarded until after the Early Decision commitment date.

If I am eligible for financial aid based on need and also receive a scholarship, will the scholarship affect my aid package?

It depends. Our goal is to make a Washington University education affordable. Student Financial Services will work with each family’s individual circumstances. If your scholarship covers your financial needs, you will no longer require need-based financial assistance. It is crucial to apply for both merit scholarships and need-based assistance.

If I am awarded a scholarship, what grade-point average will I need to maintain?

Scholarships are renewable for four years as long as recipients are making satisfactory progress toward a bachelor’s degree.

Can my scholarship be applied to a study abroad program?

Yes, if you choose to study abroad through a Washington University-sponsored program.

Do I need to be nominated for the Danforth Scholars Program?

To provide all prospective students equal access to apply for the Danforth Scholars Program, we’ve eliminated the nomination requirement from the application process. This ensures students from under-resourced schools and communities will be able to apply for and be considered for this prestigious Scholars Program.
