Financial Aid

Washington University has a long tradition of working individually with the families of our students. We feel strongly that cost should never be a barrier to a great education. Our Student Financial Services office will customize a financial assistance award that ensures cost does not stand in the way of making a Washington University education a reality. We are committed to meeting 100 percent of the demonstrated financial need for all admitted students.

Application Instructions and Deadlines
Need-Based Financial Assistance

The components included in a need-based financial aid award based on financial need are specific to each family’s financial circumstances and work together to make enrollment a reality. Students are generally eligible to receive financial assistance for eight semesters. For students admitted to combined-degree programs requiring more than four years of study, aid will be extended beyond eight semesters.

Students who receive financial assistance come from a wide variety of family income levels since many factors (such as household size, the number of children in the household attending college, the parents’ age, etc.) affect eligibility. All applicants are encouraged to apply for financial assistance.

Washington University has eliminated need-based loans as part of its undergraduate financial aid awards to students from low- and middle-income families. Entering first-year students and returning full-time undergraduate day-school students with parental incomes of less than $75,000 annually are not awarded need-based loans and instead receive grants from the university that will not have to be repaid.

information for parents

Washington University is a leader in creating innovative, flexible payment plans. Programs range from monthly tuition installments to low-interest loans, and are designed to help parents manage the cost of their child’s college education.

Washington University’s PEP Program is among the best parent financing programs in the country. PEP — Partners in Education with Parents — features low interest rates, low monthly repayment terms, and the chance to freeze up to four years of charges at the entering-year rate.

Our interest-free Installment Payment Plan allows families to spread each semester's tuition, fees, room, and board charges over 5 equal monthly payments. An annual administration fee is required with each semester plan.
